Wow, I can't believe its February already! Where did the time go? I was sitting watching my daughter the other day, checking to see if her hair has grown AT ALL (its going too slow for my liking, I'm itching to put pigtails in her hair!!) ... anyway, the thought suddenly occurred to me.... she's FIVE months old this month! HOW did that happen? I blinked! I missed it! I don't know how my baby girl is five months old! ... She's got both her middle bottom teeth.. her hair is an eighth of an inch long (and yes, its still red) and she's rolling over from back to tummy and from tummy to back... I'm grateful she's not crawling yet...
So much happening. She's getting chubbier and I'm loving the chubby cheeks and baby thighs. There is nothing cuter than a chubby baby!! I am in love!! So that's the Lydia update.
Isaiah is two this month.. once again, I blinked somewhere in there.. it just went by too fast. I'm working on planning his second birthday, nothing fancy, just family this year (or friend's that the kid's will grow up to call "auntie" and "uncle" so practically family).. I am not going to go overboard and have a bunch of his toddler friends over.. I'll wait till next year or the year after that to start the actual birthday "parties"... I don't see the point at this age, it sounds like a headache... besides, I'll still have 17 people at his birthday.. and that's quite enough. So this year's cake is going to be either a John Deere Tractor OR a replica of his John Deere Semi truck and trailer.. I don't know which, I gave Mandi the toys so she could make her choice... and the present theme (besides the obvious, clothes and such) is Hot Wheels, Coloring, and Magnets... three of his favorite things.. oh and a kids Praise and Worship CD for the car. He LOVES dancing around the livingroom to his cassettes. My li'l charmer.
As for Garren and I. Have I mentioned lately how much I love that man? Even after 2.5 years I still catch myself shaking my head and pinching myself when I realize WHO I'm married to. I mean, come on... I've known him for 14 years this year! And to realize I got to marry the boy that I BEGGED God to let me have, night after night after night, when I was young... I still get goosebumps when I think about it. After communication that was on again and off again, the rivers of tears I'd cry when we'd stop talking for long periods of time.. the anxiety I'd have worrying that I'd be caught making phone calls I wasn't supposed to be making... and then, after all that, he's my husband. Now granted, we're not perfect... we had a lot of growing up to do in a short period of time after we got married... cause while I'm the girl he fell for and he's the boy I fell for... neither one of us are the children we once were. Unfortunately we're both adults with real adult issues... (so where IS the rent coming from this month anyway? lol) ... but you know.. whenever I get to spend any real amount of time with him, I realize just how fortunate we are.. we make each other laugh, even on bad days... we might press one another's buttons like nobody else can, but we also know each other's soft spots and can make up for button pressing and remind ourselves why it is we fell in love in the first place.
WOW I got on a roll... anyway, an update on US... we all had the flu (except Lydia).. Isaiah started it, then I got it, then Garren finished it up for us. But before Garren got the flu we got an entire weekend together. Sounds like nothing, but for a couple who are used to seeing one another MAYBE once a week, an entire weekend is unheard of. Garren was able to come home Friday night, most of Saturday, all of Sunday.. and Monday he had the flu so was home... and then back to work Tuesday... So, he won't be home tonight, and probably not tomorrow.. I don't actually know when. I know he's talking about taking Isaiah's birthday off... but his dispatcher IS the biggest douche bag I've ever heard of, so we'll see how that goes. However, Garren is looking at other jobs... we just can't keep doing this. We really need him to have a job where he can get home every night. Its taking its toll. Garren can't keep living like this, its too hard on him not being able to come home. It was different before he had a family, but it kills me to watch the sadness in his eyes when he realizes just how much of the kids' lives he is missing. I want him to be here to watch them grow up. Not only that, I want him to be here so we can enjoy our marriage. I feel like it was such a gift, but that its getting snatched away from us because of one twenty-four year old punk who likes to call himself "The Boss"... its one thing to be away and KNOW you have hometime to make up for it.. but when you have to beg, borrow and steal your time home, there's a problem. I don't know why the company has not chosen to do anything about this, but it is an issue (and not just for Garren either)...
Anyway, I just thought I'd post a quick update. I'll try and have updates after Isaiah's birthday.

Getting to Know the Neighbors
Well, its been a while since I last updated this blog, so I thought I'd write today. I can't say today was an overly productive day, but it was enjoyable, and I think a day off housecleaning is a good idea once in a while. I'm still on my weird cleaning spree that started a few weeks ago, but I'm trying to remember to take it a little easier with my due date five weeks away. I've been having a lot of Braxton Hicks these last few days, so I'm definitely not scrubbing floors like I was last week.
So today started out like every other morning, Isaiah woke me up far earlier than I wanted to get up, though not as early as some mornings. We got up and had breakfast, well he had breakfast, I prefer to wait till I wake up a bit. Then he was ornery as all get out, so I put him back to bed for an hour. After that he was just happy as a clam. The weather was beautiful so I decided to take him out for a walk. I wasn't sure where we were going to go, but thought I'd walk around and see what we found. I love walking, but don't do it as much as I used to since I had Isaiah, so I'm trying to take the time to go for walks again, its been nice.
However, here is where the title of this blog comes in... I got maybe halfway down my street (we live at the end of a cul-de-sac) and I see a gentleman talking with a lady on her lawn. Having grown up in a place like Surrey, you don't greet people as you walk down the street, you keep your eyes ahead and mind your own business... that's the safest thing to do, so its what I'm used to. However, out of the corner of my eye I notice the gentleman walking towards me; now I'm thinking he's a salesman of some sort and I'm hoping he'll just ignore me. He calls out and says "Hi there..." I turn and nod and give him my winning fake smile that strangers think is genuine and say hello and continue walking, thinking the exchange is over. "You live at the end of the road, don't you?" ... by now I'm realizing this is not a salesman, but a neighbor... and one who wants to talk... now, I'm not a rude person, but I DO like to keep to myself. I'm not unfriendly, but I'm not terribly neighborly. I've never lived in neighborhoods where people know one another's names and I just prefer anonymity.. its comfortable for me. So now I have the OTHER neighbor coming up as well, this is how the exchange went down.
Man: "Hi there, I'm Kent, I live across the street."
Me: [insert winning fake smile -- again] "Hi Kent, nice to meet you..." I'm trying to sound genuine, but I'm SO uncomfortable I want to crawl into a hole, but don't see one on the neatly manicured lawn.
[Enter woman Kent was talking with earlier]
Woman: "Hi, I'm [insert name here], I was one of the contacts on the flyer that we sent out about the block party on the 14th of August, Not Irene."
--Unfortunately I'm not good with names, so when she said her name wasn't Irene, that's the only part that stuck in my head... so now when I refer to her to my sister and brother-in-law I call her "not Irene"..
Woman: "I knocked on your door this morning, but didn't want to knock too loudly cause I didn't know if the baby was sleeping or not."
At this point I'm confused, but the lights turn on when I realize she thinks I'm my sister...
Me: "Ooooh, that's not my place, I live in the basement, my sister and brother-in-law own the house, my husband and I rent the basement."
--I watch as the lights turn on for both Kent and Not-Irene
Well after a few minutes of discussing the block party that's coming up and them making sure I'd be there (oh joy of joys - nothing I'd rather do that be surrounded by neighbors I'd rather pretend don't exist), discussing large families and small families, babies on the way, grandkids and kids, and every other topic I LOVE discussing with perfect strangers... they notice I'm actually out for a walk! How astute of them!
Kent: "Oh so you're going for a walk, are you?"
Me: "Um.. Yep, just takin' a walk......." Not really sure what I can add to that statement to make it sound less awkward, so I just kinda trail off, hoping they'll just let me go... no such luck!
Kent: "Do you know where Mill Lake Park is??"
Me: "Yeah, I've been there once, but I don't know how we got there, we were just driving around when we first moved in, so I'm not sure where we were.."
Kent: "Oh well you just turn left, then left, then right, then left.... " the instructions carry on and I see my escape route..
Me: "Well I guess I know where I'm going for my walk now! That's wonderful, I should get going."
Kent and Not-Irene: "Oh okay, have a great day Maegen."
I shudder as I hear my name come from unfamiliar people. This is killing my style. I am NOT neighborly!
I walk away as quickly as I can without looking like I'm running, but inwardly I'm sprinting away from this terribly uncomfortable situation... THEN I realize I've left Isaiah's sippy cup sitting on the counter. Well there is NO way I'm walking back down my street and risking another conversation with Kent and Not-Irene. I decide I'll go to the pharmacy down the street and get a sippy (can never have enough of those anyway) and a bottle of water. I walk to the pharmacy, finally getting over that traumatic experience, and grab the water bottle and I'm trying to find a sippy cup. Before I even have a chance to look lost or bewildered I have a clerk asking if she can help me find something. Once again I'm caught off guard, I'm used to having to hunt down a clerk and then them being annoyed that I'd like help, but in Abbotsford apparently they seek out the customer... anyway, she informs me that unfortunately they don't have ANY baby things and that head office recently restocked them and reorganized everything and they took out the baby section. Then chatted with me for five minutes about my upcoming baby and the weather and everything else that seemed terribly out of place for someone I'd never actually met. Toto, we're NOT in Kansas anymore!
I leave the pharmacy and sit on a park bench that's just outside, only to have at least two people come up and talk to me during my brief five minute break. I'm beginning to feel a little bit like I live in a small town. I realize I'm going to have to go back to the house for Isaiah's sippy cup, it is far too hot a day to go for a walk without it.
I get back to the house with no further incidents, run in and grab Isaiah's sippy and begin, once again, to head towards Mill Lake Park. I get about halfway down the road and hear, "Did you get to Mill Lake Park Maegen?" I'm surprised to hear someone call me by name and look over to my left, only to see Kent and another lady walking in my direction. Heaven help me!
Me: "No, had to come back for my son's water, on my way there now." I'm trying to keep my smile genuine, I've got my mom on the phone, but I'm using a handsfree headset, so he doesn't realize I'm on a phone call. I can hear my mom snickering on the other end, she KNOWS how uncomfortable these situations leave me. I'm hoping that if I don't initiate any further conversation that he'll just go away, but apparently I have about as much luck in that department as I have in the lotto department -- not much! Except in this case, I don't even have the option of just not buying the ticket and ignoring my bad luck... here its thrust in my face.
Kent: "This is my wife Irene..." I smile and say hello, making a mental note that at some point I'm going to have to figure out Not-Irene's name... Irene is just as friendly as her husband and wants to make small talk about children and moving into the neighborhood, and how small I am considering I'm due in just over five weeks. They're both very friendly, but I'm just NOT, as I mentioned before, a neighborly person. Finally they let me go and I start walking away, my mom still laughing at me on the phone, and I'm trying to keep the smile on my face, they might have neighbors who would tell them if it suddenly disappeared, I'm walking once again quickly, but trying to appear cool, calm and collected... then I hear my name again - this time to my right. It's Not-Irene telling me to have a good walk.
I finally get off that street onto the crossing street and breathe a sigh of relief as I realize I'm finally on a road where nobody knows my name. Ah bliss.
Now for most normal people, that little exchange would be nothing, even enjoyable, but you've got to remember, up until highschool I was SO shy I wouldn't even look up from the ground. Its only been in recent years I've forced myself to look up and talk to people. I was homeschooled for Kindergarten, and the reason my mom put me into school for grades 1 through 3 was she was hoping it would help me with how shy I was -- it didn't. So while I think its nice that these people are so friendly, it takes me WAY beyond my comfort zone...
Anyway, I went to Mill Lake Park. It was an absolutely beautiful walk, I will post pictures when I'm not so tired. There are at least 4 playgrounds, a water park, a lake, and apparently a swimming pool. I didn't see the pool, but I did see everything else. It was so nice and has a paved path for walking that makes it very stroller friendly. It's a long walk too, I was gone for three hours.
Isaiah slept for most of the walk, but did wake up and enjoy watching the geese. I quite enjoyed the peace and quiet and was only interrupted by strangers saying hello a few times when I was on the boardwalk. Abbotsford really truly IS small town. I'm SO a city girl!
I finally got home and after making Isaiah supper I decided to take a short walk around the block (what better way to start labour?)... as I was walking I, once again, heard my name. It would seem I am doomed now to talk to my neighbors every time I leave my house. Not-Irene makes a point of saying hello every time she sees me, and all the other neighbors wave and say hello. I can see how living in the suburbs will be quite the stretch for me... my family thinks its comical.. I haven't told Garren this story yet, but I'm sure he'll find it quite funny as well... they all think I'm so "funny"... hmmph! lol.
In truth, it is comical. What normal person gets that weirded out by people? Betcha didn't know I was THAT shy, eh? I'm sure that Dean, Bruce, Kent, Irene, Not-Irene and whatever other neighbors I have that I have yet to meet will drag the shyness right out of me! lol.
So yes, that was my day getting to know my neighbors.... There's more to post, but it will have to wait till tomorrow. Its nearly 1am and I am sure Isaiah will be up early, and we're going to Whonnock Lake tomorrow.. so I need to have SOME energy!
Love you all,
Maegen

July 7, 2010
Well, another day Isaiah decided it was time to get up at eight thirty. I think this is going to be our new routine... it's not such a bad thing, I suppose, its just I am NOT a morning person at all. I am, however, more productive when I'm up at that time of day... But I don't know if its so much a matter of me being productive as it is the "nesting" period of my pregnancy has hit full force. In the last week I have washed my kitchen floor 5 times, and vacuumed once to twice a day. I have baked and cooked like crazy. There isn't a dish in sight that hasn't been washed, dried and put away. All the laundry is done and I have changed the sheets twice this week... I'm sounding just a little Obsessive Compulsive! This HAS to be a pregnancy thing... I like my house clean, but I'm not usually THIS caught up. LoL.
Other than that, not a terribly exciting day, besides my usual cleaning regime. One of my girlfriends came over, she has a daughter who is three and she and Isaiah LOVE playing together. I think Isaiah is quite taken with her. He follows her everywhere she goes and cries when she leaves. It's quite cute. His first friend. ... wow time flies.
Remember when he looked like this?
So much has changed since then! Now he runs around with the other kids and yells and makes "boy" noises.. I'm definitely not ready for it! He's not my baby anymore, he's a toddler. It's official. He walks, babbles, has all his teeth but one (and still needs his 2 yr. molars), eats almost all solid food (things like raw carrots are still an issue), throws temper tantrums (he's not so cute during those, but they're becoming less frequent as he's learning he doesn't like the result of a temper tantrum), he does as he's told (within reason), he wears anything from 18 mo. to size 2, he gives hugs and kisses when asked, he says "more" "All done" "thank you" and "I love you" in sign language and he is completely weened off formula.... I think its time to face the fact that he's just not a baby anymore...
I mean, I know I was told it would go quickly, but did it really have to go this quickly? When I sit back and think about how much he's changed in the last year and a half I'm astounded (How do ya'll do it? Your babies have babies!) and a little sad. Yes, each new stage comes with its own new exciting developments (and its new challenges) and I wouldn't go back to the old stages, but its hard not to feel like its flying by and if I blink I might miss something! I mean, I remember being just a little bit older than Isaiah... my first memory I was two... it doesn't feel that long ago! I remember it like it was yesterday... how very strange to have a son who is reaching an age where he might remember it twenty-five years from now! ... anyway, my goodness, I'm rambling! How on earth did I get to this? lol..
Moving on! Isaiah had a nice afternoon playing with his friend Odessa. They are good buds. Garren was also home early from work today, which was nice cause he hasn't been home in a couple days and Isaiah has missed him like crazy. Isaiah is just not his usual chipper self when Garren is gone for longer than a day. He definitely misses his Daddy. He wanders around the house saying "da da da da da" and then when he hears Garren's voice, or see's him getting out of his truck he is all squeals and shrieks. I can't take Isaiah with me if I'm taking Garren back to his truck, poor little man cries his little eyes out. We try to have Isaiah in bed if I have to take Garren back to his truck, that way Daddy puts him to bed, and its not so hard on him.
Today, at the grocery store, I forgot my points card, so Garren went back to the house to get it (we only live about a five minute drive from the store) and Isaiah spent the entire time he was gone calling him! I had to remind Isaiah quite a few times that we were using our "inside voice".. it was so cute to see him looking around the store calling out "DA!" ... "DA?"... "DADA!"...
Other than that... a rather quiet evening. Isaiah tried Ribs for supper this evening. He wasn't sure how he felt about them at first, and refused to eat them, but when he realized his options were dinner or bed, he thought twice about his original assessment and had ribs, potato salad and asparagus. He LOVES asparagus. (I have an odd son, there are almost no vegetables he doesn't like, he gets picky about fruit!)
Anyway, its late and I have to drive Garren to his truck in four hours, I think tomorrow will be a LONG day..
Love you all, perhaps I'll have some fun things to write soon... though, if my life continues to consist of cleaning, I doubt it!

How on earth did I get to this? lol..Moving on!

Another Day Gone
July 5, 2010*sigh* It's been a very long day...
Isaiah has decided that he's going to change his schedule on me, so I'm not quite used to the hours yet. He woke up at eight thirty this morning for breakfast, played for a few hours (just when I was finally getting to the point where I thought I might be fully awake) then decided it was time to go back to bed. So he went down for a three hour nap... and of course I'm not going to go back to bed at that time of morning, so I guess the nap I usually take in the afternoon with him has been forfeit! lol... ah well, it was a productive 3 hours.. I managed to get all the dishes done, laundry washed and put away, kitchen clean, bathroom clean and lunch made for when Isaiah woke up.
He finally woke up around one thirty and was in a surprisingly good mood. However he's decided he is going to test his mother's patience and started throwing fits... not big ones, the big ones were short lived - apparently Isaiah doesn't like time out - but big enough that they're just grating on my nerves. I don't know if there is truly something wrong or if its a fit, then I realize its a fit... the screaming definitely does not do good things for the head!

However, my mom and pops decided to stop by this afternoon, so Zaiah was thrilled to spend the afternoon running around outside with Nanny and Pops (and Auntie Mandi and Cousin Eli) .. the boys chased bubbles (Thanks Auntie Heidi :) and played on their jungle gym for quite some time... Isaiah was fully tuckered out once we went back inside so yet another nap was in order. He slept for about an hour then played for a bit, had some supper and during his bath he was yawning constantly, li'l guy couldn't keep his mouth shut for more than a minute at a time... so he was all tucked in and fast asleep fifteen minutes before bedtime...
Now I'm thinking about following suit... I was going to do some school, but Garren won't be home tonight - after yet another paperwork screw up thanks to Nestle Water - so I don't have a reason to keep myself up any later... and I don't know if I could even if I wanted to!
A beginning for blogging..
Hey everyone. I thought that since we're so disconnected from everyone and nobody ever really knows what's going on in our lives I would start a blog. I know that I am not the most consistent when it comes to writing, but I'll try to keep this updated so ya'll know what's current in our family and there's no "oh I didn't tell you?" moments. Besides, its a nice way for you to see the kids progress, I know I don't get time to post photos on facebook, though my new iPhone helps with that (thanks sweetie). So here it goes....

I can't say that anything particularly interesting is going on at the moment. Isaiah slept through the night last night, first night all week due to the immunizations he had, and so I got a great night's sleep as well. Actually it hasn't been Isaiah keeping me up at night lately... it's been his energetic little sister. I do vaguely remember going through the insomnia when I was pregnant with Isaiah, but its just as unpleasant this time as it was the last! However, we both got a good night's sleep last night so we were both in much better moods than we have been lately.
It being Sunday I got up earlier than usual and started getting ready for church. Garren, Isaiah and I have just recently started attending church again. We'd been on a bit of a break, as the church I attended for most of my life has become more of a gossip group than what I was wanting from a church. Don't get me wrong, the pastoral staff and the ministry team there are awesome people and I LOVE the head pastor there dearly, but unfortunately it had just become a place I no longer felt welcome. Sad what gossip does in a church. Regardless, Garren, Isaiah and I started going to Southgate Church about 5 or 6 weeks ago. I attended there briefly (maybe a year or so) about 4 or 5 years ago and really liked the head Pastor there. He is very real and definitely keeps the congregation engaged while teaching on awesome principals while never forgetting that his main focus should be God. I definitely love this church. Its a nice place where Garren and I feel very welcome and quite at home. Already I have a couple who come up and say hello every Sunday (and even remember our names!) ... they have a little boy named Isaiah who is about 5 weeks old - totally adorable! something about that name..
Anyway, I digress... I got up and started getting ready for church. I have to say, its more difficult now that Isaiah is nearly completely weened off formula... getting up and making breakfast while getting ready for church is quite the challenge. I am NOT the multitasker I aspire to be. Typically on a Sunday morning Garren can help me, but he had to drive last night, so I picked him up from his truck, brought a change of clothes, and we went straight to church from there.
After church we came home and poor Isaiah was just beat. He's not a morning person, so Sundays are just as hard on him as they are on Garren and I. (what can I say? We're not a morning family) ... so after a good long cry on the way home he went straight to bed.
Sunday being the day Isaiah goes out for the afternoon it was a mad rush to wake him up from his nap (poor boy) and get him changed, fed and out the door... all in a span of fifteen minutes! (Yep, Garren and I are just THAT good ;)
The rest of the afternoon was relatively uneventful. I worked on some school work. I'm finally back at my Medical Transcriptionist course after taking several months off. I've hit an assignment I'm not too terribly thrilled about, but I should have it done in no time if I keep up the pace I've been going.
Garren sent some trips into the company (don't you just LOVE paperwork?) as, once again, the machine at work is broken... (gotta love how the company is in NO rush to fix the machine that aids in the drivers getting paid!) Anyway... he sent that in, and then unfortunately had to go to work. He didn't have the day off, but does usually try to rearrange his schedule so he can be home on Sunday morning/afternoons. Quite often he doesn't have to leave till early the next morning, but today he was off to work at 3:30pm. After driving him to his truck twice (well done on leaving your keys at home sweetheart) it was time to go back home and wait a few minutes until Isaiah came home.
Poor Isaiah was SO tired. He only had a half hour nap and the events of Sunday afternoons leave him absolutely tuckered out. He slept for an hour or so then was up running until about nine thirty (two and a half hours after bedtime, but Sundays have their own schedule). I discovered this evening that Isaiah LOVES Indian food. Apparently spice is not an issue for him (I am NOT looking forward to that diaper)..
But that is pretty much it. I put Isaiah to bed, and he went down without a fight.. odd for a Sunday, but definitely nice for momma!
He's getting to be such a big boy now. Once I figured out he needed a night light in his room, bedtime became so much easier! Now every evening I say, "Alright big boy, its bedtime now." He runs over, puts his little hand in mine and we walk to his room. Once inside he closes the door while I get his bed ready and make sure to find his teddy bear, blankie, soother and bottle of water. Then he reaches up and waits for me to tuck him in, say prayers, tell him mommy and daddy love him (if Garren is home he's part of the routine as well - Isaiah definitely sleeps better if its both of us putting him down) and that Mommy will come get him in the morning, but its time for sleep now... Then I leave and (if he's not teething or sick) he'll chat to his teddy for a little while and the off to sleep...
So now my little man is all tucked in and sleeping soundly.. and I think I'll end this blog here... I'm sure there's more to say, I hope I didn't bore you to tears. We don't have a terribly exciting life, but we do have one, so I thought I'd write it down!
We love you all! I'll try to keep this updated!
